I went to Spitalfields market on Sunday for the first time in eons! Found an amazing shop called Bolongaro & Trevor, they were the original owners and designers of All Saints. This shop is stuffed full of all the styling and direction that AS has lost over the past 2 - 3 years, I could have bought almost every piece!
These were just three examples of some of the stock. Check ouside their website www.bolongaroandtrevor.co.uk
As the months go by to my leaving John Lewis and I now have only 36 days left actually working in the shop I wanted to have my management team round for dinner just to say Thank You to them for all their help and support, they came armed with wine and flowers, thank you xx
It is also rememberance weekend and as well as wearing my beautiful crochet poppy I painted my nails a field of poppies in tribute.
So the end of October is almost here and I've had a couple of clients who wanted Halloween nails, one is Gellux and the other regular polish.....
Her other hand looks like.....
My other Halloween client wanted quite simple nails...
I am off to my best friends daughters wedding on the weekend and am wearing a coral pink Whistles dress with a black jacket, shoes and fasinator, so I've done a marbled set of nails with old gold spots.
...and the other hand..
These are complex nails but really worth the effort, if you've got a special occasion they are a real talking point!
I went to York last week for work and had a bit of spare time one afternoon and had a peak in the Mulberry factory outlet.......a lovely 'denim' wool skirt reduced by £250! Rude not to!
On the nails front I did a set for one of my clients who is happy to let me experiment! So, jade Gellux, graffiti polish in a clear blue with white and black effects topped of with white and black spots!
I went to the Petplan area finals with my friend Alex on Saturday as head groom (!), but bathing dirty a dirty grey horse, tack cleaning, plaiting etc, etc caused havoc with my last manicure, I broke 2 nails! So yesterday I took it off and went for a very different look this week. My cuticles are in very dire need of some treatment and I'll do this over the next few days, I've been neglecting the twice daily oiling!
It's fashion week at The Mall this week and the South West bloggers network blogged some of the John Lewis fashions that I helped select and style with Ray Gaddis of Fashion Live. Theme of the scene was all about dark winter florals and winter colours.... Purple and teals.
I've been on holiday this week so took all my polish off at the weekend and gave my nails a little 'au natural' treat for a few days, however I'm off to the Beauty Show at Olympia this Sunday so couldn't possibly go without some really good nails.
I know they still need a little more clean up but by the end of the day they'll be good!
Earlier in the day I did one of my clients nails for her hen weekend, the theme was black and pink.
The other part of my life, when not doing nails, is my full time job, although with just over 20 weeks to go it won't be long before I'm entirely dependant on the nail business - eek! Anyway last night my personal styling team did a fashion workshop at Swinhay House, a multi million pound house in Gloucestershire - amazing I have never been anywhere quite so impressive, we had such fun and were able to have a good nose around!
I've been very busy since returning from holiday but have managed to squeeze some nail art in! The photos probably aren't fantastic but you'll get the idea.
These were my first attempt at checks and have had an amazing response from some of my customers and colleagues at work. The technique is to paint the whole nails white, then using a striping brush paint the outlines and then fill using a dotting tool. These are Gellux and were cured after each step which makes for a much cleaner and quicker finish. If you use normal polish each step needs to be properly dry after each step.
After my black and white nails the other week I thought I'd have one last really summery manicure using the same technique, but I then put No. 17 Graffiti over the top and then sealed with Gellux extra shiney top coat, again, loads and loads of comments. This is hard to achieve with normal polish as it dries too quickly.
These amazing nails are from the book Nail Art by Helena Biggs and I think will be my inspiration for my next set, probably week after next, going to have polish free week next week (off work and major dental operation mean I won't be out and about very much!) and my nails could do with a week of TLC!
I've seen a couple of clients and done my own nails so far this week. You'll recognise one of the designs from my own manicure last week. If you are looking for inspiration look at my Pinterest boards for nails.
Well holidays are over....boo hoo...Yasmin has gone back to Liverpool, see her blog The Student Wardrobe, and I've gone back to work. In a bored moment last week I counted the number of working days until the last possible date before I finish, as of today it's 99!
I have now passed all my nail exams so am properly qualified, I haven't done an exam since I was 18 and trust me that was a long time ago! I was VERY nervous but got through with flying colours!
Just a couple of photos to add; the turquoise nails were for our holiday and the black and white were just a complete change and a bit of an experiment, I think they turned out well, let me know what you think.
I've been a very busy bee over the last few weeks and struggled to do anything but work!
However, I've now completed my nail course and am well on the way to being a fully trained and competent nail technician, just got to wait for my final exam in August. I'm currently offering introductory treatments to get lots of practice in prior to this, so if you want anything nail related at special prices then let me know ASAP as these will only last until August 3rd!
In the meantime I've got 3 nail biting clients who all want to stop, for various reasons, and I'm working with them to get their nails looking the best they can. Just wish I could get George to do the same! But sadly being a strapping 6' boy he's not really interested!
Take a look at the photos and I'll keep their progress updated.
